Time to leave Luigi and Gail, and travel South. First, a chance to show off a picture of Jack, his first day at school, yesterday, and Jack and Immie together, smart as new pins in their uniforms. And of course, to Skype with Abbi on her birthday, to pass on best happy birthday wishes. Gail kindly presented us with a huge tin of Confit de Canard to take home to share with Grandad and some fresh figs from her tree in the garden.
We finally got to the supermarket and bought a box of Roche Mazet, a merlot, recommended by our wine advisers, the Mustafics, as a good everyday red wine, not poncy, overpriced, pretentious or naf. The cheese department was definitely a challenge. Chris had to concentrate hard to select from the massive choice of camemberts before moving on to some Roquefort and some Caprice des Dieux, 'un amour de fromage' as it says on the box. The fruit and salad department was equally difficult; we bagged some peaches, apricots, plums and avocados, tomatoes, cucumber, leaves and a tub of cashews to graze on. Three pots of pâté, some vanilla yoghurt, pain au raisin...I am embarrassed to continue, what cochons gourmands.
We have just arrived at our site high in the mountains and have chosen a pitch with spectacular view. Chris has reported that unfortunately the wifi, free, is only available on the terrace by the bar. There is no obligation to buy a beer, or wine when blogging, but, one feels, it is only polite, n'est ce pas? We are looking at mountains at the front and at the side of the pitch, there are trees behind. There is a misty cloud over the tops of the mountains in places. There are trees on the lower slopes of the mountain but at the level we sit, mostly we are looking above the tree line. We have a hibiscus bush in full flower in front of us and there are shiny green leaved laurel hedges enclosing Rosie May . There are hazel nuts in the branches above which we hope will not fall on us in the night. Et tiens, church bells ring at 7 p.m. to complete the idyllic picture.
We will eat Caprice des Dieux with figs and good bread this evening. Followed by peaches, I think.
