A day in the city. We cycled along a lovely cycle path all the way to the city centre, in a linear park beside the river. This photo was taken right in the heart of the city.
There is a statue of El Cid here - I am not sure what role he is playing but I thought he was better in Hancock's Half-hour.
We locked our bikes at the tourist information centre by the cathedral and went inside.
Then uphill to the Castille which gave splendid views across the city.
No flowers today but two good birds.
Reed warbler.
Tree creeper - possibly short-toed!
There's not much to add. Except for an outstanding art exhibition that we saw after the Cathedral; three of today's modern Spanish artist being exhibited at the Burgos Art Gallery. An installation by Cristina Lucas called 'On Air' was truly memorable. The first part was to do with humankind's visions of being able to fly, since images first started to be made. Then, the second, the reality of flight, as it became possible. Then, the third part, showed what humans have done with the longed for ability to fly. This last part recounted all the bombings, incident by incident, that had happened since flight was possible, each one accompanied factually by who carried it out, when, where, and the number of civilians who died, presented through information mapped in video format. It was stark and very moving and will stay with us. The artist was influenced by the world's response to Picasso's 'Guernica'.
